7485 IC 4-Bit Magnitude Comparator DIP-16
The IC 7485 is a 4-bit magnitude comparator that evaluates the relationship between two 4-bit binary numbers, labeled A (A0–A3) and B (B0–B3). It compares the two inputs and outputs three signals: A > B, A = B, and A < B, each indicating the result of the comparison.
The device also features cascading inputs and outputs, allowing designers to connect multiple 7485s together to compare numbers larger than 4 bits. You can chain them to create 8-bit, 12-bit, or even 16-bit comparators by feeding the cascading outputs of one IC into the cascading inputs of the next.
This IC supports high-speed logic-level comparisons and integrates seamlessly with other TTL components. It eliminates the need for extra logic gates when comparing binary values in digital circuits.
