Current Sensor Module ACS712 5A
The ACS712 5A Current Sensor Module is a reliable and widely used sensor for measuring both AC and DC currents up to ±5 Amperes. Based on the ACS712 Hall-effect IC, this module provides an analog voltage output proportional to the current passing through the onboard conductor. Its high sensitivity and galvanic isolation make it ideal for use in power monitoring, protection circuits, and current-controlled applications.
With its compact PCB design and easy-to-use 3-pin interface (VCC, OUT, GND), the module integrates seamlessly into projects using Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, PIC, AVR, and other microcontrollers. The ACS712 offers excellent linearity, low noise, and built-in isolation, ensuring safety and accuracy when measuring current in embedded systems.
This sensor is particularly useful in DIY electronics, robotics, home automation, solar energy monitoring, battery management systems, and motor control projects.
How It Works
The ACS712 module works on the Hall-effect principle. Current flowing through the onboard copper conductor generates a magnetic field, which is sensed by the Hall sensor inside the IC. The sensor then outputs an analog voltage that is linearly proportional to the input current.
At 0A current, the output voltage is at VCC/2 (≈2.5V for 5V supply). When current flows in one direction, the output voltage increases, and when it flows in the opposite direction, the voltage decreases. This allows the module to measure both positive and negative current flows.
