Reed Switch (Magnetic Switch) N.O

The Reed Switch (Magnetic Switch) N.O is a simple yet highly reliable electronic component designed to detect the presence of a magnetic field. It operates as a Normally Open (N.O) contact, which means the circuit remains open until a magnetic force brings the contacts together. This switching behavior makes it ideal for use in alarm systems, automation, robotics, and general electronics projects. The device features a sealed glass tube construction that protects the internal metal reeds, ensuring long-lasting durability and consistent performance even under varying environmental conditions.

How It Works

The Reed Switch consists of two ferromagnetic metal contacts (reeds) sealed inside a small glass envelope. In its normal state, the contacts remain open, preventing current flow. When a magnetic field approaches, the reeds become magnetized and attract each other, closing the circuit and allowing current to pass. Once the magnetic field is removed, the contacts return to their open state. This simple, contact-based operation requires no external power, consumes no standby energy, and offers a fast response time, making it a highly efficient sensor solution.
