7407 IC Open Collector 40mA Buffer 14-Dip
The IC 7407 contains six independent buffer/drivers with open-collector outputs, allowing direct connection to high-voltage or high-current loads. It belongs to the TTL 7400 series and operates with a standard 5V logic supply. Unlike standard logic gates, the open-collector configuration on the outputs lets you pull up the output to voltages higher than Vcc (up to 30V) using external resistors. This feature makes the 7407 ideal for interfacing between different voltage levels or driving devices such as relays, LEDs, lamps, and stepper motors.
The IC acts as a buffer, strengthening signals and isolating logic circuits from loads that require more power. Each gate accepts a standard TTL input and delivers a current-sinking output, capable of handling external power. Designers often use the 7407 when they need a TTL-compatible logic driver with open-collector flexibility. The chip comes in a 14-pin DIP or SOIC package and serves well in automation, I/O interfacing, digital control systems, and analog conversion circuits.
